Born 7th February 1912, Bognor Regis, Sussex, Eng.; arr. Aust. In childhood; died 29th June 1981.
Studies: With George Bell, Melbourne, 1931 & 1935-38; Grosvenor School, London, 1938-39; Le Grand Chaumiere, Paris, 1939.
Awards: Wynne Prize, 1947; Melrose Prize, 1949, Britannica Australia award, 1965; Knighted, 1969; AC (companion of the Order of Australia) conferred, 1980.
Represented in collections held by the NGA; AGNSW; AGSA; AGWA; MAGNT; NGV; QAG; QVMAG; TMAG; Regional galleries; Tate Gallery, London; MOMA, New York.
