Exhibitions

15 March - 7 April 2007
Shona Wilson
'array'

Shona is no longer "the best kept secret in Australian contemporary art", as John McDonald, Art Critic, Sydney Morning Herald, put it. Her renown is spreading, the emerging artist is rapidly gaining national recognition. In this same review he said: "If there is a message in her art, it is embodied in the materials themselves, in her love of detail and her avoidance of the tedious "notions" that encumber the works of so many young artists. Wilson is an intimist who wants each work to be felt by the senses, not simply registered by the eye." In this show, Shona is combining works from her ceramic 'fortress' series, assemblages from the 'patternation' series, twig works from the 'streamline' series and 'fossilization', a more recent focus that has led her to complete a major new work. Shona's sheer talent and tenacity continues to produce remarkable works. Each and every piece contains an extraordinary sensitivity and mystery, a vulnerability - a little like a secret that when exposed reveals a myriad of truths. This is what so fascinates and attracts the viewer to gaze in wonderment.

12 April - 28 April

Anthony Browell

His recent success with the pinhole camera has led Anthony to a new series of beautiful and stimulating portraits and figurative works. "After spending 40 years grappling with all the exotic and expensive professional photographic gear that was around, this simple process had a lot of appeal for me. As soon as I saw the results I was hooked," Anthony said. "The camera is primitive, but the results sparkle" wrote Robert McFarlane (SMH 02/05/06) Famous photographer Lewis Morley described Anthony pinhole works as "astonishing, astounding, amazing and beautiful."
